Toshiba unveils a big 13-inch tablet

When Gulliver reached the Kingdom of Bobdingnag, the Giants there were disappointed with Gulliver’s 7” Tablet which they found was too tiny to use. Humiliated at such an insult a giant Eagle threw him back in to the ocean. Enter Toshiba, a company which believes that ‘One size does not fit all’ has unveiled a giant 13” Tablet PC with sturdy aluminum shells and scratch resistant glass display , shiploads of which Toshiba hopes to ship to the Kingdom of Bobdingnag…just kidding!

The news is that Toshiba has unveiled 3 new Tablets in its Excite series– Excite 7.7, Excite 10 and Excite 13 for the US market. The Tablets are powered by Android 4.0 Ice cream sandwich operating system. The processor in these tablets is NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor which can mean better multitasking performance. The primary camera is 5 MP and the secondary camera is 2 MP.

Toshiba Excite 7.7 Tablet PC: This 7.7 inch tablet pc is Toshiba’s first tablet to feature an AMOLED display. It is a thin tablet with 0.3 inches (approximately: 0.76 cm) depth and weighs 13.4 ounces (approximately: 380 gms). It is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with GeForce graphics and 1GB RAM.

Toshiba Excite 10 Tablet PC: This 10.1 inch Tablet PC provides 10 finger multi touch support and a resolution of 1280x800 pixels. It’s a thin tablet with 0.35 inches (approximately 88.0 cms) depth and weighs 1.32 pounds (approximately 598 gms). It can deliver upto 10 hours of battery life and 7 days of stand-by. It is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with GeForce graphics and 1GB RAM

Toshiba Excite 13 Tablet PC: This 13 inch Tablet is just 0.4 inches thin and weighs 2.2 pounds. So, Toshiba says that it will still be easy to carry. It provides 10 finger multi touch support, boasts of a cinematic 16:9 aspect ratio and 1600x900 pixel resolution. It is powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with GeForce graphics and 1GB RAM. It can provide up to 13 hours of battery life and 7 days of stand-by.

So, are the Giants happy with the 13” Tablet? Not yet, those android apps designed for mobile phones look stretched in the 13” Tablet. It is time for the app developers to optimize their apps for the Giants, Humans and Lilliputs.
