Sometimes, you wish you were not part of a long email conversation with a lot of replies. You can either ask to be removed from the conversation or simply 'mute' it.

What Happens When A Conversation Is Muted?

  • The conversation will be archived
  • All future messages in the conversation will also be archived
  • You will still receive the messages but will not see it in the inbox
  • You will not get mobile notifications when new messages are received


How To Mute A Conversation In Gmail?

  • Open a conversation
  • Open 'More' options
  • Click 'Mute'. The conversation is muted and moved out of inbox.


Where To Find All Muted Conversations?

Method 1 (search):
Search Muted Conversations
In the Gmail search box, type is:muted and search. This will show you a list of all muted conversations.

Method 2 (All Mail):
Search Muted Conversations
Click the label 'All mail'. This will show you all your emails including muted conversations.


How To Unmute A Conversation?


Unmute Gmail

  • Open a muted conversation
  • Open 'More' options
  • Click 'Unmute'. Your conversation is unmuted but you will see it in your inbox only when you receive a reply. Until then, you can find it in the 'All Mail' label.
