How to granularly grant or revoke app permissions in Android Marshmallow?
In Lollipop and earlier versions of Android, you had to accept all the permissions that an Android app asks for. Even if you did not require some of the features, you could not revoke permissions that those features required. In Android Marshmallow, you can granularly grant or revoke permissions even after installing the app.
- Go to settings>>apps.
- Tap the 'Gear icon' () on top to configure apps.
- Tap 'App permissions'
- You can see a list of all permissions. In the above screenshot, you can see that 10 apps have asked for 'camera' permission while only 8 were granted permission.
- Tap 'Camera' to see the list of all apps that have asked for camera permission.
- You can toggle ON/OFF the permission for each app from this screen.
Caution: If you are switching OFF a permisson, make sure that it is not essential for the basic functioning of the app. Apps may not function as desired if essential permissions are switched OFF.
