How to compress files to zip format in Android using a File Manager?

You do not require specialized Zip apps to compress files in Android. It is a basic feature offered by most file managers. Let us see how it is done in some popular file managers.

Learn to compress using any of the below File Managers:
        I: ES File Explorer
        II: Asus File Manager
        III: Astro File Manager


I: Compress to Zip format using ES File Explorer

ES File Explorer offers the most advanced compression features amongst the file managers that I have seen till now.

  • Open ES File Explorer
  • ESFileExplorerCompress Folder

  • Tap 'Compressed' category on the app's home screen
  • Tap 'New'
  • ES File Explorer Compress Select Files

  • Browse and select the files to be compressed. Press OK
  • ES File Explorer Compress Options

  • Select the compression type (zip, 7z), compression level (Store, Fast, Standard, Best). Optionally, you can enter a password to password-protect the zip file.


II: Compress to Zip format using Asus File Manager

  • Open Asus File Manager
  • Tap the hamburger icon to open the sliding menu
  • Browse local storage and open the directory that contains the files to be compressed

  • Select the files to compressed
  • Tap the 3 dot menu on top and select 'Compress'
  • Give the zip file a name and press OK


III: Compress to Zip format using Astro File Manager

  • Open Astro File Manager
  • Browse to the folder containing the files to be compressed
  • Select the files to be compressed
  • Astro File Manager Compress

  • Open the 3 dot menu and tap Zip
  • Give a file name and tap CREATE
