We bookmark web pages on multiple devices like PC, tablet and mobile phone. Using the Chrome browser’s bookmarks feature, you can sync bookmarks saved in one device and access them on other devices too.

Step I: Enable chrome bookmarks sync in your PC (desktop or laptop)

  • Open chrome browser
  • Click the menu icon () on the top right of the browser.
  • In the menu drop down, click ‘settings’.
  • Click ‘sign in to chrome’ and sign in with your google account.
  • Click the button ‘advanced sync settings’ (this button appears only after you sign-in as mentioned above.
  • In the ‘Advanced sync settings’, ensure that ‘bookmarks’ checkbox is ticked.

Now that we have enabled chrome bookmarks sync on the PC, we will also enable it on Android phone and tablet. We will get to that a little later, but first an important question.

What if my bookmarks are on Firefox or any other browser?

You can import your bookmarks from Firefox into your Chrome browser on the same PC.

  • In chrome, go to menu () >> bookmarks >> import bookmarks and settings.
  • Select the browser from which you want to import and click ‘import’.

This is a one time import from Firefox to Chrome and does not sync every time you bookmark a page or remove from Firefox bookmarks.

Step II: Activate chrome bookmarks sync in your Android phone or tablet.

  • In your Android device, go to Settings >> Accounts >> Google (I assume that you have added a Google account to your Android. If not, in Settings>>Accounts, click on ‘Add account’ and add a google account).
  • Touch the google account name that you want to use to sync bookmarks (must be the same account that you have used earlier to sync bookmarks on your PC).
  • Enable the option ‘Chrome’. Your chrome bookmarks will sync periodically. Note that you will require a mobile data plan or a wifi connection for sync.

Step III: Access synced bookmarks in Chrome browser on Android

  • From the chrome menu (), open bookmarks.
  • Your bookmarks are categorized as ‘desktop bookmarks’, ‘mobile bookmarks’ and ‘other bookmarks’ depending on where you originally saved a bookmark. Touch any folder to see the bookmarks.

Step IV: Access synced bookmarks in Chrome browser on PC

  • Open chrome browser
  • Click the menu icon () on the top right of the browser.
  • Go to bookmarks>>bookmark manager (or use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+O).
  • You can see all your bookmarks here, including those bookmarked on your Android device.

Step V: Troubleshooting chrome bookmarks sync

  • Check whether your PC and Android devices are connected to the internet/data. Syncing happens only when the device is connected.
  • Check whether you are using the same google account on all your devices. When bookmarks are synced on google’s servers they are saved under your google account.
  • Syncing of bookmarks on Android is done at a set frequency and this frequency is not configurable. It is possible that your bookmarks are not yet synced. Do a force sync by disabling and re-enabling ‘chrome’ sync (refer to Step II for help).

There is no advanced sync settings in my computer.

You need to be signed into see 'advanced sync settings'.

Go to menu>>settings. Click 'Sign in to chrome'. Sign in with your google account. You will see advanced sync settings after you sign in. Imp: Sign in with the same google account on all devices that you want to sync.
