Update on 3rd June 2012: According to a news report in Hindustan Times, Union Telecom and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has said that specifications for Aakash Version 2 will be finalized by June end.
On the sidelines of the World IT Forum 2012 in Delhi, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said that Aakash version will be launched in May. The Minister said “After freezing the technology, we will start manufacturing it. We are calling people from across the world to manufacture it and some people have shown interest”.
The upgraded version Aakash 2 is expected to overcome the issues faced in Aakash 1. It would have a capacitive touch screen, a 700 MHz Cortex A8 processor, and a 3200m AH battery with a 3 hour battery life.
Readers may recall that the production of Aakash 1 Tablet has been delayed due to differences between ‘Datawind and IIT Rajasthan’ and then between ‘Datawind and Quad Electronics’. To know more about these differences, read Aakash Tablet PC circling in the sky: Datawind snaps ties with Quad.
